Mirna Escalante Huerta

Mirna represento muchas cosas para mucha gente. Fue una madre increíble para Ximena y Fernando, una hija maravillosa para Teresa y José, una hermana solidaria para Alex, Jorge, Martha y Luis, una abuela espléndida para Franco y Aranza (e incluso una abuela para Charlie, el perro de su hja), una maestra dedicada, una amiga amable y mucho más. Su energía juvenil y su sonrisa brillante y honesta siempre la hicieron especial. Cuando el cáncer se desarrolló en su cuerpo, no tenía idea de con quién se estaba metiendo. Mirna convirtió un pronóstico de 3 meses a siete años y medio!! Fue increíblemente valiente en su lucha contra el cáncer y siempre mantuvo su esperanza y una actitud positiva. Falleció en las primeras horas del 4 de septiembre después de una larga lucha con su diagnóstico. Estuvo acompañada por su hija, su hijo, su madre y su yerno y se mantuvo cómoda en su casa, que recientemente compró con su hija y su yerno en Chicago. Más allá de su diagnóstico, Mirna siempre le apasiono la educación y amaba a todos sus alumnos y alumnas. Era una ávida amante de la música y nunca pensaba dos veces en bailar cuando sonaba la música de los 70 y 80. Es imposible expresar con palabras cuánto la extrañaremos, pero siempre recordaremos el impacto de su legado.

Mirna was many things to many people. An amazing mother to Ximena and Fernando, a wonderful daughter to Teresa and Jose, a supportive sister to Alex, Jorge, Martha and Luis,  a splendid grandmother to Franco and Aranza (and even a dog-grandma to Charlie), a dedicated teacher, a kind friend, and so much more. She always stood out with her youthful energy and bright, honest smile. When cancer developed in her body, it had no idea who it was messing with. Mirna turned a 3 month prognosis into seven and a half years!! She was incredibly brave in her fight against cancer and always kept a positive attitude and a hopeful heart. She passed in the early hours of September 4th after a long long fight with her diagnosis. She was accompanied by her daughter, her son, her mother, and her son-in-law and was kept comfortable in her home, which she recently purchased with her daughter and son-in-law in the Windy City of Chicago. Outside of her diagnosis, Mirna was always passionate about teaching and loved all of her students. She was an avid lover of music and never thought twice about dancing when 70s and 80s music came on. It is impossible to put into words how much she will be missed, but the impact of her legacy will always be remembered.
