Theodore Orland

Theodore (Ted) Orland, 87, of Berwyn, Illinois, beloved husband of Joyce (nee Garbe) for 61 years, cherished father of David (Charlotte Kaiser) and Jennifer (Anthony Paoletti), devoted grandfather of Dominic, Christopher, Noah and Brooke. He was the son of the late Theodore Orlowski and the late Francis (nee Szatkowski). 

Ted was a transportation salesman who was blessed with the gift of gab. He was active in his community serving on the boards of the PAV YMCA, the All Berwyn Committee and Wesley Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Tully high school, Wright Community College, and the College of Advanced Transportation.

As a teenager, Ted worked as an usher at the Oriental Theater. Later, he worked in the office at the Burlington Railroad, where he was known for his deep, melodious phone voice. That led his co-worker to set him up on a blind date with Joyce, “the girl of my dreams.” Joyce and he went to Riverview Park on June 30,1961, and the rest is history. They were married on January 26, 1963.

In his spare time, Ted enjoyed photography, music, scenic road trips, long (and frequent) naps, and reading (and collecting) newspapers. He could recall minuscule facts from 20 years past and was the person you wanted on your team to play Trivial Pursuit. Ted was a friendly, kind man who loved to talk, but what he loved most was his family. 

A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2025, at Woodside United Methodist Church, 82 Woodside Road, Riverside, Illinois. Friends and family may gather at the church for visitation from 9 to 11 am. A church service celebrating Ted’s life will follow at 11am. There will be a luncheon after the service where all may share their memories of Ted.
