Norine Smith, 89, of Edison Park passed away January 4, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Donald Henry for 68 years. Loving mother of Adele (Scott) Mitchell, Donna (Mark) Pappas, and the late Karen (Paul) Hunt. Dearest grandmother of Daniel Hunt, Laura (Tim) Futo, Carli Pappas, David Mitchell, Alec Pappas and the late Donald Hunt. Great grandmother of Hunter and Ivy Futo, Cherished aunt, cousin, godmother and friend to many. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Lena (Carl) Pighini and Rochelle (Alcide) Giovacchini. Her memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Church, 7958 W. Foster in Chicago.
Norine was born on the 1st of November, 1930 in Chicago. She was the first in her family to be born in the United States. Her two elder sisters and parents were born in Collagna, Italy, and she visited the place of her parent’s birth during her 80th year. She worked for WGN Radio and Television for over 25 years and has many lifelong friends from her years there. After retirement she worked part-time in the office at St. Eugene Church, and when the cook was on vacation, she made Italian meals for the priests. She was known for her “meals on wheels” as she derived much enjoyment by bringing food and pastries to those she loved.
