Mildred K. Lombardi (née King), age 98, of the Edgewater and Peterson Park neighborhoods of Chicago's North side and formerly of Lynn, Topsfield and Haverhill Massachusetts, at rest Friday, April 17, 2020.
Beloved wife of the late Primo Anthony Lombardi. Loving mother of Lucia Lombardi, Primo Anthony (Karen) Lombardi Jr., Kara (Daniel) Lombardi-Andersen and the late Leo Francis (Joyce) Lombardi.
Cherished nana of Sarah (Matthew) Sunnerberg, Andrew Joseph Lombardi, Samantha Lombardi, Primo Lombardi III and Michael Joseph Lombardi. Great-grandmother of Wesley and Levi Sunnerberg. Preceded in death by four sisters Catherine, Adeline, Margaret and Marie and five brothers Martin, Patrick, Leo, Paul and Peter “Dinty”.
Mildred served in the Second World War and rose to the rank of Lieutenant in the Army Nurse corps. Stationed in England she devotedly cared for soldiers during WWII. Upon discharge she worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a school nurse and later as an inspector of skilled nursing facilities. When Mildred retired from her state job she worked in the private sector as Director of Nursing at several chronic care facilities on the north shore of Boston.
Upon retirement from nursing, Mildred moved to Chicago and displayed her talent as an actress in many theater productions including "Lend Me a Tenor" (Apollo Theater), "Tony n'Tina's Wedding" (Pipers Alley), commercials and as an extra in many Chicago based films and television shows.
