Our Dad, Lyle Clayton Burkett, 68, of Chicago's Wilson Park / Jefferson Park / Portage Park neighborhoods, passed away September 6, 2024. Adored father of Jeremy (Bree) Burkett and Jason (Mayra) Burkett. Loving Grandfather of Lucas, Bennett, Owen and Noah. Dear brother of Daryl (John) Hersh, Keith (Christine) Burkett, Dean (Steven) Giuntoli and Kendra (Michael) Eiermann. A special thank you to Brenda Herold and family for all the love you have shown Lyle.
He was a true artist in wood working and a Master cabinet maker, if you met him, be prepared to spend a wonderful time exploring all of the beautiful mantles, chairs, tables etc. he had built from scratch, he was so proud of his work, not to mention his love for old tools. But his true passion was found in the people around him, his dear friends and family who he would do anything for, all you had to do was ask, and sometimes even if you didn't ask. He loved to golf, bowl, play cards, enjoy the "occasional" beer and the annual seasons of Hiawatha Football, he would not miss a game even if his knees and shoulders were hurting, he would be out on the field running his routes and playing defense. There will never be another man like him, he is a real throwback, a mix of an artist, football player and carpenter, he was a mans man and its pretty cool that he was our dad.
He will be painfully missed and some future days will be so hard we will not want to face the sun for a while, but knowing he is with his wife Carol up in heaven dries the tears and brings out a smile.
We plan to hold the Memorial Service on October 5th 2024 at 2pm, St. Johns Lutheran Church, 4939 W Montrose, Chicago, IL 60630.
