Larry Joe Tarnow, 83, of Carpentersville, Illinois, passed away on January 16, 2025. Born on September 24, 1941, Larry was the eldest of four children and grew up in a loving family.
He graduated from Dundee Community High School in 1959 and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country. Following his time in the military, Larry embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a long-haul truck driver, traveling across the country and enjoying the freedom of the open road.
Larry had many passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved fishing, finding peace and satisfaction casting a line into the water, and sharing that experience with family and friends. An avid woodworker, Larry enjoyed crafting and creating with his hands, taking pride in the pieces he made. He also had a green thumb and found happiness in gardening, nurturing plants, and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Alita Faye Davis; his sons Joe (Amanda) and Chad (Archie); and his daughter, Okie (Michael). He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Austin and Ezra, who brought endless joy to his life. Larry is also survived by his sisters, LuAnn (Paul), Susan, and Linda; his Aunt Char; and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their Uncle Larry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Imogene; his wife, Marilyn; his son, William; his brother, Merle; and his brother-in-law, Jim.
Larry’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his work, and the kindness, humor, and creativity he shared with everyone he met.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date details to be announced, where family and friends will gather to honor his legacy and share memories of a life well-lived.
Rest in peace, Larry. Your journey may be over, but the love, lessons, and memories you leave behind will live forever.
