Janet Minnick, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the Little Company of Mary. Born on October 30, 1942, in Chicago, she was a vibrant spirit who dedicated her life to family, community, and the beauty around her.
For many summers, Janet opened her heart and home while running Minnick's Cottages at Sister Lakes, Michigan. Here, she created a welcoming haven for countless guests, constructing not only a business but a tapestry of memories woven through laughter and joy. Those sunny days were filled with the warm smell of fresh blooms from her well-loved yard, a testament to her green thumb and her love for nature.
Janet was proud of her role as a mother, raising her three cherished sons—Thomas (Maribeth), Chris (Michelle), and Edward. She poured her love into their lives, nurturing them with affection and guidance, while also shaping their values in perseverance and kindness. Her legacy continues to thrive through her grandchildren: Thomas, Vincent, Valerie, Emily, and Christopher, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.
Janet was preceded in death by her devoted husband Thomas, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years. She also mourned the loss of her parents, Amos and Esther Kent. Janet’s love and strength are felt deeply by her surviving family members and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Janet's life will be held on April 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, Illinois. All are welcome to come and share in the warmth of memory and love that Janet so generously gave. As we gather to honor her remarkable journey, we find comfort in remembering the light she brought to our lives and the everlasting impact she has left on all of us.
