George Edmund Compton, lovingly known as “Dede” by his grandchildren, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 25, 2024 at the age of 68. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Debbie (née Topolinski). Adored father of George Bryan (Jean), Kathryn (Alex Cotteleer), and Daniel (Hannah) Compton. Cherished grandfather of Kelsey Elizabeth Cotteleer, Madison Ross Cotteleer, Anna Louise Compton, George Thomas Compton, and Rhodes Wilder Compton. Dear son of Felicia Compton. Loving brother of Deborah (Hal) Hilmer and John Compton. Treasured friend of Mason and Donna Rotelli. George was preceded in death by his father, George William Compton.
George was born on June 2, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a Class of 1974 graduate of Forest View High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois and Class of 1978 graduate of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. George married Debbie in 1978, marking the start of a lifelong partnership rooted in love and laughter. He was a devoted husband and family man who loved spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. An enthusiastic Chicago sports fan, George could be found cheering on the White Sox from the stands with family and friends, and Sunday Bears games were not to be missed. He found great joy in his longtime tradition of poker tournaments with his buddies, playing tennis and golf outings with friends. As an avid rock n’ roll and film lover, George embraced a sense of wonder and adventure that he carried throughout his life.
Visitation will be held on November 9th from 9:00-11:00 am at St Thomas of Villanova Church 1201 E. Anderson Dr Palatine. A Funeral Mass honoring George’s life will begin at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) or Chicago White Sox Charities (https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/charities).
