Elaine Helen Gambino of Chicago passed away peacefully on November 20, 2020. Elaine was born May 9th, 1936 to Mabel and Harry Prokopf and in her youth, she started taking accounting classes through Northwestern University. She moved to Chicago in 1958 and married Vito Gambino on March 3, 1962.
Elaine used her superb accounting skills at the Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital in downtown Chicago and was the executive vice-president of Capitol Savings and Loan for 13 years. She also worked in accounting for Gordon's Restaurant and Getty Images. She was our family's financial counselor and possessed a tremendous business acumen.
Elaine had a passion for gardening and her yard was filled with abundant flower arrangements. One of her favorite places to visit was the Chicago Botanical Garden. She was also a big sports fan with tennis being her favorite viewing. Elaine was one of the few people who was both a Chicago Bears fan and a Green Bay Packers fan. She also enjoyed the Christmas season and our home was filled with holiday decorations.
Elaine was very fortunate to travel extensively both across the United States and Europe with visits the England, Scotland, Italy, Germany, and Russia. Elaine also loved the theater and encouraged her family members to take in a live performance.
Elaine is survived by her sons, Frank and Harry (Tita), her sister Dee Manyen, her grandchildren, Scott, Leo and Elora, her nephews, Phil (Deborah) and Tim (Debbie) She loved each and every one of her relatives on the Italian side of the family and the German side.
Due to the pandemic circumstances, there will not be formal services at this time but rather a celebration of life at a later date.
