Dolores Lopez Gomez (Papa Lolo), born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, passed away at 103. He lived an authentic, purpose-driven life devoted to his family and service to God. A man of humble beginnings, he embodied the virtues of hard work, perseverance, and integrity. Papa Lolo’s lifewas a testament to his beliefs and values, as he lived purposefully, touching those around him with his generosity, wisdom, and compassion. He retired from General Electric in 1981, where he worked for over thirty years.
Beloved husband of the late Natividad Carrasquillo Lopez; loving father of Rosita Lopez and son-in-law Anibal L. Taboas, Gladys E Ramos and son-in-law David Ramos, and Maria L. Mercado and his late son-in-law Jaime Mercado; adoring grandfather of Michael Ortiz, Iliana Marcano Rzodkiewicz, Eleazar Mercado, Joshua Ramos, Elisa Ramos Miller, Samuel Mercado, Gabriel Mercado and Daniel Marcano. Loving Great Grandfather to twins Ava and Jisella Ugo, Luke Rzodkiewicz, Gavin and Grayson Mercado, Tristan and Darbus Abreu-Mercado, and Emma and Gabriela Marcano-Mercado.
He persevered through the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017. In 2024, a book documenting his extraordinary life was published, Learning to Live: Lessons from the Storm.
