Ching Ming Dohoney

April 6, 1943 — February 12, 2025

Buffalo Grove

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ching Ming Dohoney, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, and adoring grandmother. Ching faced chronic liver disease for many years with strength and grace. In her final days, she found comfort in her family’s love and experienced no pain during her transition from this world. Ching Ming peacefully departed this life on February 12th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

Wang Ching Ming was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1945 (originally from Wuhan, Hubei), and in 1949 she embarked with her parents from Nanjing, to Wuhan, then Guangzhou and finally to Taiwan, they went ashore at Kaohsiung, and then settled in Taipei. Her father was a military judge and worked in the Military Justice Bureau of the Ministry of Defense. Although Ching Ming was the youngest in the family, she gives back to the family the most, she is filial to her parents, and spares no effort to support the younger generation. In the military village, because she studied in the United States (with the layers of exams and the general environment at that time, it was not easy to study abroad), she made her parents look good, and when her parents were old, she arranged for them to live a stable life. Though she was one of five children, she shared a special relationship with her sister Fan Ming. They shared not just a sibling bond but a deep friendship filled with countless memories and laughter that transcended distance and time.

After many years of schooling, she started her career as an accountant at the Meiya Shipping Company. Four years later she studied economics at the University of Chicago, and then worked at the United Nations in New York for more than a year before returning to Chicago to marry David Dohoney and start a family. Together they created a life full of love and laughter. David and Ching Ming shared a love for travel, especially to national parks, and visiting museums. Her legacy continues through her son, Sean Dohoney, who carries forward her spirit and values. Ching Ming’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Cole and Maxwell, who brought her immense joy and whose laughter filled her with love and happiness.

Ching Ming loved gardening and found peace in caring for her plants and flowers. Her garden served as a sanctuary and reflected her nurturing personality, flourishing just as she did throughout her life. Ching Ming was also devoted to to her church and community, where she touched the lives of many with her generous heart and infectious spirit. Ching Ming was diligent, pure and lived a self-disciplined life. Her strength and resilience were a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
