Carolyn Sotos

March 13, 1942 — December 9, 2024

With deep love and heartfelt memories, we announce the passing of Carolyn L. Sotos on December 9, 2024. Carolyn was a one-of-a-kind woman- tough as nails, a stickler for the rules, but with a sharp wit and a humor that kept everyone in line and (depending on your offense )-laughing.

Born on March 13, 1942 in Chicago, Carolyn was a master of discipline, teaching her family the value of hard work, respect, and doing things the right way (a.k.a. her way). She didn’t sugarcoat life, but she had a way of making even the toughest lessons unforgettable, often with a perfectly timed joke or a cheeky grin that let you know she cared.

As a mother, she was firm, worked incredibly hard, and was fiercely protective of her family. You always knew where you stood with her-usually after a sharp look or a clever remark. But underneath her no-nonsense exterior was a heart of gold, and her children and friends knew her love was the driving force behind every rule, every lecture, and every laugh.

Carolyn is survived by her four children Chris Bonder (Cielo), Nick Bonder (Shannon), Jennifer Gielow (Kyle) and Michael Bonder. Grandchildren, Shawnie Godke (Steve), Courtney Cupido (Luca), Max Bonder, Anna Bonder, Murphy Gielow, Collin Bonder, Dylan Bonder, Zachary Bonder, Brooke Bonder, two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Sullivan Godke and her sister, Christine Sokol. All of the above are better people because of her tough love and unshakable guidance. She was preceded in death by her husband John and her sister Mary.

A visitation will be held on January 4, 2025 at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at:

Though she’s no longer with us, Carolyn’s sharp wit and unforgettable lessons will remain in our hearts forever. She was tough, she was sassy, she was funny, and above all she was our mom.
