Beatrice Elaine Mahlum, 72 passed away on February 29th, 2024 under hospice
Care at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, IL. She was comfortable and at peace.
Beatrice was born in 1951, to Victor and Elaine (Guinn) Mahlum in Minot, N.D.
Because her father served in the U.S. Air Force, the family traveled to bases in the US and the
UK. Her beloved brother Michael and Beatrice enjoyed spending time with family when Victor
was on leave. Summers were spent near Stanley, N.D. at Clear Lake with their Cousins, Aunts
and Uncles. They would enjoy picnics and trips to the North Dakota State Fair.
When Beatrice was 15, her Dad retired from the USAF and the family moved to Minot, N.D.
where she graduated from high school and attended Minot State University.
She moved to Chicago in 1975 and completed studies to become a paralegal. She worked at
Walgreens, Northwestern University, Ida Crown Academy and the Center for Disability and Elder
Law during her career.
Beatrice had a keen interest in Metaphysics and aligned with the Midwest Pagan council in the
80’s. She shared that part of her life with John “Jack” Armstrong, his Arum Solis shop and
helped direct the “Heartland Coven” until his death in 2004. They had traveled about the US
enjoying Pagan Conventions and large campouts. They also enjoyed weekends in Indiana with
friends on Jacks land.
Beatrice was a voracious reader, a hard-playing Scrabble player who loved Mother Earth and
ALL its creatures...she was generous and loving to others.
Bea is survived by her dear friends, Peter Weers and Michael Paoli, her sister-in-law Rebecca
Jones Mahlum, her nephew Johannes and nieces Rachel and Sedalia. She is also survived by
her Aunt Martha Snyder and many cousins.
