Asia Candelaria, 91, a beloved member of our community, passed away peacefully in her home on July 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Asia resided in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Cesar Rivera, who passed in 2009. Asia is survived by her two daughters, Enid Rivera and spouse Jaime Rivera, and Zoraida Lopez and spouse Edward Lopez. Her memory will also be carried on by her dear grandchildren, Zesar Camacho, Bryan Camacho, Asia Camacho, Jesaida Wandersee, Carlos Gonzalez, and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Nancy Rodriguez, Julie Candelaria, and Miley Candelaria. She was preceded in death by siblings Zoraida Zambrana and Mity Negron. Asia was the beloved child of Juan Candelaria and Obdulia Rios. She served 34 years as a Teacher's Assistant for Chicago Public Schools, and her contributions were significant during her tenure at William H. Wells High School. Asia enjoyed singing, socializing, sewing, and cooking. Her talents brought joy not only to her, but to all who had the pleasure of sharing.
