Alfred Joseph Bedella (also known as Lito or Pad), 91, passed away September 24th, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born January 19, 1933 to Natalia and Atanacio Bedella. One of 10 children, Alfred was born and raised in the harbor area of East Chicago.
He was a proud US Army veteran, serving his country in Korea. Upon his return from the war, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Dolores Lorraine Crowley. They lived on Chicago’s South Side before moving to Chicago Ridge in 1968, where they raised their family. He was a devoted fisherman and lifelong Cubs fan. When they later moved back to the city to be closer to their grandchildren, his only request was they live walking distance to Wrigley Field. In recent years, they moved to Evanston to be close to family.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; three children Philip (Arti), Davida (George) and Matthew (Theresa); his sister Lilly and brother Manuel; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, Connor, Gabrielle, Zara, Olivia, Braden, Arlo and Lucas. He will be remembered for his easy laugh, quiet warmth, kindness and grace. We will miss him with all our hearts and be forever grateful for his legacy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Saint Mary Church, 1012 Lake Street in Evanston at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Residential Hospice Foundation.
